ASSESSORS NOT PRESENT.

1 NO FUNDS FOII EXPENSES. IVIiESj ASSOCIATION* TKLKGiIAM.) DUNEDIN, July 27. The Conciliation Council to-day heard an application by the employers for a new award in the lime industry. Mr Robinson, representing the union, stated that, no assessors for the union were present. Lime works were scattered over a large area in Otago and Southland, and assessors were not in a position to meet the expenses f attending the sitting. The commissioner, Mr S. Ritchie, said that the position was a difficult one. Th expenses of assessors could not be paid by the Labour Department, and the men's position was reflected in the state of the union's funds. However, the act gave the council power to adjourn to another time and place, and the sitting was adjourned till Friday, August 4, when it is expected that, the union's representatives will be present.
