The difficulty of finding work for matriculated boys was emphasised at a meeting of the Wellington Boy Employment Committee. Mr L. J. Greenberg reported that the officer of the Unemployment Board who had been lent to the committee to endeavour to find employment for the many matriculated boys who were out of work had explained j that he had visited 50 of the leading firms in Wellington without result. The chairman, Mr R. H. Nimmo, said it would appear that high educational attainments were not looked on with favour by employers. He knew that the position was very difficult, as many of these boys who had matriculated were from 17 to 18 years of age, and foremen did not like putting them to do boys' work. The boys, however, were only too willing to do anything, and soon found favour if only given a chance. It was explained that circulars had been sent out to Wellington firms on the subject, and it was decided that the officer of the Unemployment Board should continue his follow-up work. ds v^ m m K«™ * a PP" anc e. from electric sun baths to X-rays, is to be available in the Beaumont Animal H °J p %i, Thte institution cost £25,000, and more than 1000 animals and birds can be treated each month.
