BRIDGE PARTIES.

Mrs C. A. Myhre was hostess at. a delightful bridge party held at her home in Rossall street yesterday afternoon, as a result of which the funds of the Philiipstown Kindergarten will be considerably benefited. To celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of St. Margaret's College, a school membership drive has been arranged by the pupils. Following this good example the old girls, ever loyal to their school, having decided to conduct an old girls' membership drive and to augment their permanent fund, held a delightful bridge party at the school hall last night. The energetic organising committee comprised Mrs George Rich. Misses Mary Morten (vice-president), i*iarjorie Best (treasurer and acting-secre-tary). Betty Thomas, Alma Chamberlain, Doris Cooper, Jo Eddy, and Molly Rankin. In the absence of the president of the association (Mrs Guy Cotterill) Miss Mary Morten spoke of the work of the Old Girls' Association. The hall was decorated with chrysanthemums and greenery. | The Richmond Hill Golf Club held a successful bridge party at Sumner last night in the Sumner Town Hall. The funds of the club are expected to benefit considerably. The whole of the arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames K. Brook and H. Y. Widdowson.

Mrs David Bates was responsible for arranging the very enjoyable programme given yesterday afternoon at one of the series of popular informal receptions, held at the Canterbury Women's Club. Scarlet berries and narcissi formed the effective decorations. Aletter), "You in a Gondola" (Robert Coningsby Clarke), Mrs A. E. G. Lyttle; elocutionary items, "Captain Oates" (F. W. Bain), "Little Mary Fawcett" (F. Witty), "Good Little Girl" (A. A. Milne), "Simple Sally" (A. P. Herbert), "My Financial Career" (Stephen Leacock), Miss Lucy Cowan; songs, "Fragile Things" (Montague F. Phillips), "Mandy and the Spiders" (Lorraine Tombs), "June" (Roger Quilter), "The Asra" (Rubinstein), Miss Evelyn Thompson. Accompaniments were played by Mrs A. G. Thompson, Mrs Robinson, and Miss Doris Webb. Mrs H. Wyatt briefly thanked Mrs Bates and the performers. OBITUARY. MRS F. rc. HARBORD. The death occurred suddenly at the week-end at Tunbridge Wells, England, while visiting friends, of Mrs F. R. Harbord, widow of the Rev. F. R. Harbord. Mrs Harbord was the younger daughter of the late Mr Thomas Field, and sister of Messrs T. A. H. Field and H. M. Field, of Nelson. For many years Mrs Harbord lived in Nelson, but some 30 years ago married Mr Harbord and accompanied him to South Africa. Later they returned to England where he was vicar of Dunchurch. He was a chaplain in both the Boer and the Great War, meeting his death from shell /Ire in France. Mrs Harbord had been living recently in Worcester, where she had a large circle of friends, and she was contemplating a visit to New Zealand in the autumn.
