A meeting of parents and others interested in the formation of a boys' band for Kaiapoi was held recently. A strong committee was set up to further the interests of the band, and Messrs W. PARNASSUS. At the monthly meeting of the Parnassus Women's Institute, Mrs Collard (vice-president) was in the chair. A letter was received from the United Friendly Societies' Dispensary about a recommendation for relief that will be dealt with at the general meeting on August 10. The Commercial Travellers' concert party and orchestra will visit Amberley on Friday night to give a concert in aid of the Amberley, Leithfield, and Balcairn relief of distress fund in the! Amberley parish halU The monthly meeting of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held on Tuesday afternoon, 10 members attending. The president! (Mrs G. S. Roberts) was in the chair. A competition for the best sponge | sandwich was won by Mrs Stevenson, who received the prize presented by Mrs Roberts. A reading from H. V. Morton's "Spell of London," was enjoyed. Afternoon tea followed, at which the hostesses were Mrs Croft and Mrs Stevenson. A parcel of sewing from the ladies' auxiliary in Christchurch was received and distributed by Mrs Milner. LOBURN. Members of the Loburn Tennis Club paid a surprise visit to Mr and Mrs A- Kirk on the eve of their departure from the district. A pleasant evening was spent with cards and! music. Mr J. W. Macleod, on behalf of the tennis club, presented Mr and] Mrs Kirk with a Kaiapoi travelling rug, and wished them every success' in their new venture. Supper was served by the women. There was a fair attendance at a social held in the North Loburn Hall. The prize-winners were Miss I. Crooks and Mr M. Fitzgibbon. A social evening was held in the Loburn Hall on Tuesday. This makes Rangiora A and Ashley equal in the competition for the cup, each having lost one match. The annual tournament will take place at Rangiora on Saturday next. rolleston. The Marshland junior football and basketball teams visited the Ouruhia School on Monday afternoon to play return matches, the home teams proving victorious. The Marshland Plunkot Committee has reeeived a grant of .CI Is from the Waimairi County Council. In order to augment the funds the committee has arranged for a concert by the Mairchaii girls' concert party, and a dance will be held after the cor,cert. Tile women of the district will provide supper. Mi' Leslie Delamain is a patient in the Christchurch Hospital. Basil Arps. who is undergoing treatment in the Christchurch Hospital for pneumonia, is reported lo be progressing favourably.

I'REBBLETON. The monthly meeting of the Prebbleton Women's Institute was held in the library, Mrs K. Askin presiding over a good attendance. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs G. Tod in the death of her father. Mrs G. LongstafTc was welcomed as a new member. It was decided to join the British Drama League. A competition for the best laundered collars was judged by Mesdames A. Bennett and G. Long3tafle, who placed Mrs C. Atkinson first, Mrs J. Easterbrook second, and Mrs J. Giles third. Mr R. Nairn gave a talk on horticulture, with particular reference to the functioning of the leaves of plants, and afterwards answered numerous questions. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Nairn for his kindness in coming out to give the address. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses Edith Bennett, Bertha Hartnell, and Lilian Millar. A social and dance were held at the Islington Hall by the Hornby Ladies' Croquet Club. Competitions, games, musical items, and dancing were enjoyed. Competitions were won by Mrs Carney and Mr W.
