INTER-BOROUGH CONTEST.

BILLIARDS AND SNOOKER. The annual inter-borough contest between thu billiards and snooker teams of the New Brighton and Sumner Clubs took place at the Sumner Bowling Club's pavilion. The president of the Sumner Bowling Club, Mr T. H. Newburgh, extended a welcome to the players and guests, and referred to the great interest that had been aroused by these annual events. He apologised for the unavoidable absence of tho president of the Sumner United Sports' Association. Mr G. F. Allen, Mr W. H. Nicholson. Mayor of Sumner, expressed his appreciation of the warm welcome received. Mr E. A. M. Leaver, Mayor of New Brighton, also acknowledged the welcome and referred to the large number present as evidence of the great interest the annual competition roused. The games resulted as follows: Snooker. New Brighton—J. Clark 104, Taylor 108. McLachlan 96, D. Clark 110; total, 424. Sumner —D. Richardson 94, 11. Stoneman 98, N. Donovan 78, Hulston 83; total, 353. Billiards. Sumner —J. Mai tin 200, G. Webb 200, J. Allen 200, T. Chambers 150; total, 756. New Brighton—J. Cusack 158, Berry 103, P. Skinner 105, Cockle 200; total, 656. At the conclusion of the match the visitors were entertained by the Sumner Club. Mr Skinner, the donor of the Skinner cup, as the results of the evening's play, presented the Sumner Club with the trophy. Owing to the lateness of the hour this was received on behalf of the Sumner Club by a former president, Mr T. F. Chambers.
