MOTORIST CHARGED.
SEQUEL TO FATAL ACCIDENT. (IT.ESS ASSOCIATION TELEOEUt.) WELLINGTON, July 12. Arthur Haldamond de Lisle was charged to-day with being in charge of a motor-car while in a state of intoxication, and with negligently driving the car, thereby causing the death of Alfred Hicks. The charge arose out of a fatal accident outside the woollen mills at Petone on June 2. An inquest on Hicks, who died in hospital, was held simultaneously. De Lisle pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed and the inquest was adjourned. On the further charge of driving the car v.'bile in a state of intoxication the evidence was that Hicks was walking alone on the bitumen paving on a night described as dark and was knocked down by a car which witness said was travelling at a high speed.
