"MRS MOONLIGHT."
*— REPERTORY SOCIETY'S SUCCESS. The second presentation of "Mrs Moonlight," the play by Benn Levy, given at the Radiant Hall last evening by the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society, was even more successful than the opening performance of the short season on Saturday, and again the drama was unfolded to a capacity audience. The choice of the production for the society's first major play of the season has been a particularly happy one, and under the capable direction of Miss Kiore King, the producer, its staging has been very effective.
Miss Valerie Tennent, as Sarah Moonlight, has the most diflicult part, and manages to make it, by skilled use of her voice, and by well-controlled movement, something as near reality as can be obtained with the character. Miss Lucy Cowan, as Minnie, is admirable, both for the progression she gives to the development of voice and manner, and for the timing of her lines. Mr T. W. C. Tothill makes Tom Moonlight a comic figure, but with a blending of strength. Miss Molly Fowler, as Jane, shows real ability. With ease of manner she combines, especially in the scene where she discovers Willie Ragg's faisity, a valuable control of facial expression. Mrs Robinson Hall shows lively understanding in her presentation of Edith Jones, and moves and speaks gracefully. Mr Mervin Bull, as Percy Middling, the unhandy lover, and Mr J. H. Young as the dashing man-about-town, Willie Ragg, are well cast. Mr C. J. Wheeler, as Peter, makes a pleasant young "Mrs Moonlight" will be presented for the final time this evening.
