RICHMOND WORKING MEN'S N CI.UB. The forty-third annual "Sam Weller Swarry," organised by the Richmond Working Men's Club, was held in the Union Rowing Club's pavilion on Wednesday evening, Mr R. M. Grant presiding over an attendance of 300 members. The Deputy-Mayor*(Mr J. K. Areliev) was present. In proposing the toast ot the visitors, the president said.that good feeling existed between members of the Richmond Working Men's Cub and kindred bodies. The past year had been one of stress for the whole community, and especially for the wording men, he said, but it was hoped that good times were not far away. We paid a tribute to the work done to relieve distress in the City through the agency of the Mayor's Relief of Pistress Fund. In proposing the toast of kindred clubs, Mr R. B. Woodward said that, without kindred associations, club life would not be worth while. He had r* o " ticed that this year there, were more club representatives present, and expressed the hope that the numbers wquld go on increasing. Representatives of various visiting clubs replied.

"Few members realise what a lot of work devolves upon the officers and conimiittee," said Mr W. S. Appleyard, in proposing the toast of the president, officers, and committee. "I can assure you that the task of tlio exeputive at present is not an easy one, but the members are of the best, and they will Bee the cluh through." Responding, the president said that he had endeavoured to do hia best for the club.

The toast of the Press was proposed by Mr P. A. Aldersley. and that of the entertainers by Mr C. BreHpeyer. Besides numerous items fey the Herd-man-Fisk Orchestra, items were given as follows:—Messrs C. Geggin (sohgs) T E. jJrundell (saxpphone splps), D. MeGill, B. Eenneil, J. North, ?in<j L. Gufflf mings (songs), and J. Foster (recitar tion).
