The Commissioner (Mr W. Newton) explained that this was the first of district meetings, and an agreement reached here would . affect other centres. It was stated that the average price received for wool last season in the Gisborne district was 3d a lb. The parties failed to agree. The workers offered to accept 19s a hundred, but the owners were unwilling to go above the 16s Sd already offered. Both sides commented on the amicable spirit prevailing, and the Commissioner hoped that the Wellington sitting would succeed.
