BT. GEORGE'S HOSPITAL CHAPLAINCY FUND. Mr H. A. Knight's gifl of £2O has been at once followed up-by Mr Thomas Chapman's cheque filling Lord Biehard Cavendish's purse. Lord- Bichard Cavendish was a very close friend of Mr Godley, They were both at Oxford together,'and.a college acquaintanceship ripened into a noble and absorbing friendship. (Together with Lord Lyttelton, and others, Lord Cavendish came forward, again ' and again with advances oat of his own private fortune the extent not of tens of hundreds, bpt .of thousands and tens of thousands" to save the Canterbury settlement from ruin. He saw that Godley*s life's work was in peril, and hen determined, that it should not by allowed .to fail . for want of timely aid.
