ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE.

WORK OF THE WEEK. .At 5 p.m. yesterday the St. John Free Ambulance had responded to 42 calls, and after first aid had been rendered all but two were transported to hospital or to their homes. The greatest number of calls received on any one day during the week was ten, on Monday. Long-distance calls were received from Leeston, Lincoln, and New Brighton, all of which received prompt attention. Ambulance Divisions. The Linwood Rover Scout Division met at their "den," 24 St. Hellier's street, on Saturday evening. Mr J. Stokes, Acting-Superintendent, was in charge and presided over an attendance of 11 members. Dr. Jennings, Divisional Surgeon, was also in attendance and gave a very interesting lecture on respiration. After the lecture Dr. Jennings questioned members generally on the work they had taken during the past six weeks. On Wednesday evening 11 members, from the same division, again met in the King Edward Barracks, under Ser-geant-Major P. Rudd, who took them on stretcher drill. • • • Members of the Christchurch Railway Ambulance Division met on Monday evening in the Railway Social Hall, Carlyle street. Superintendent F. A. Bonnington was in charge, and after the inspection Mrs A. Bishop, Lady District Officer, conducted a very interesting question- and practical work evening. Mr Bonnington later notified members of a corps lecture, and detailed various members, for public duty. Owing to the approaching football season public duties were also arranged for that period. It was further notified that Mr F. Rudd would visit the division on the following parade night. Final arrangements were also made in connexion with the social and dance to be held on Saturday next, and members of other divisions were cordially invited to attend. • • • Members of the No. 3 Ambulance Division met in the Brigade rooms on Thursday evening. Superintendent F. J. Ashwortli was in charge, and a good attendance. was' recorded. After the public duties had been arranged for on the St. John Free Ambulance and sports grounds, members were marched to the old Navy League Hall, where a corps lecture was given by Dr. J. F. Landreth. The subject of the lecture was "Injuries Met With on Football Fields and Elsewhere," and at the close of the address the doctor was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. "Nursing Divisions. The Christchurch Nursing Division met as usual on Monday evening at the King Edward Barracks. Mrs Bell, Lady Superintendent, presided over a good attendance of members, and after the business of the evening, public duties were arranged for the week and at the South Hagley and Lancaster T?arks on Saturday. Reports were handed in. which detailed a number of eases dealt with at the All Naitons Fair. Later in the evening Sergeant-Major Rudd formed the Division into squads, and under his supervision drill and transport work was carried out. The nursing cadets, attached to this Division, were also on parade and carried out "First Aid and Oral Practical Work," under the Cadet Officer, Miss Carnie. • • ' • The fortnightly meeting of the No. 1 Girl Guide Nursing Division was held on Tuesday evening, at the Brigade Rooms, Gloucester street. There was a good attendance of both seniors and cadets, under the supervision of the Acting-Lady Officer, Miss G. Donaldson. Another new member was admitted to the Division, as a probationer. After the business of the meeting was over, the Divisions.! Surgeon, Dr. F. W. llclmore, attended and gav3 an interesting lecture on the signs and symptoms .of dislocations, sprains, etc., also on the circulation of tlic blood. Arrangements were afterwards made for members to do public duty on the St. John Free Ambulance, at the required time. # • • Members of the Selwyn Nursing Division held their weekly parade on Tuesday evening, when Mis. Angus, Lady Superintendent, presided over a large attendance. After the business of the evening, members adjourned to the Navy League Hall, where a Corps lecture for Nursing Divisions was given by Sister Knight,, of St. Helens Hospital. After a formal introduction by Mrs A. Bishop, the speaker entered into a very interesting talk on-, prenatal care, the attention to mothers and tho care of young babies. Gay, Lady Superintendent. Public duties were arranged for the St. John Free Ambulance, and later members attended a very interesting lecture on cramp and head injuries, which was given by Dr. J. F. Landreth, who, during the course of his address, explained that these were the complaints most frequently met with, on the playing fields. General Notes. A meeting of some interest to ladies will take place in the Brigade Room in about two weeks' time, when it is proposed to form a St. John Ladies' Auxiliary Association, and through this medium to amalgamate ail small bodies of lady workers, now in existence, and so be in the position better to relievo distressed people, and givr : help in fho homes and elsewhere.
