ECONOMIC CRISIS.
EFFECT ON EUROPEAN TRADE. GERMAN AND ITALIAN PROOFS. (I?KITEI> PRESS ASSOCIATIOK —ST BLECTSIC TELEGRAPH —COJ?TRIGHT.) (.Received January 20th, 7 p.m.) LONDON, January 20. Eloquent proofs of the severity of the world's economic crisis and the shrinkago of purchasing power are supplied by the German and Italian trade returns, which are as follows: — Imports. Value in Value ia 1930. 1931. & £ Germany .. 510,000,000 331,500,000 Italy .. 192,000,000 129,000>000 Exports. Germany .. 506,500,000 460,250,000 Italy .. 135,000,000 111,500,000 Germany's favourable trade balance in 1930 amounted to £56,500,000; last year the amount was £128,750,000. It is pointed out that the shrinkage of exports was due to failing prices rather than to volume, while the economy prohibitions explain the decline in import!. Italy's adverse trade balance in 1930 was £57,000,000; last year it amounted to £17,500,000.
