The Hon. W. B. Taverner, Minister for Publio Works, arrived from Wellington yesterday and left later for the south. Dr. R. J. r f. Bell, Professor of Mathematics in the University of Otago, is a visitor to Tiniaru. - Messrs W. P. Endean, M.P. (Auckland) and E." A. Bruce are guests at Warner's Hotel. Professor J. E. L. Cull, of Canterbury University College, returned yesterday from a visit to Wellington. Mr G. Morris (Fairlie) is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Messrs H. W. Kitchingham (Greymouth) and G. R. Mortloelk (Auckland) nrp umong tho guests at tlje Boyal Hotel. Mr P. J. McLean, Greymoutb, who has been spending several days in Christchurch, leaves on his return to the West Coast this morning. Messrs E. J. Reid, H. C Henes (Wellington), G. A. Abel, E! B. S. Hill (Auckland), and J. Newman (Nelson) are registered at the United Service Hotel. \The chairman (Mr McGregor Wright) extended a welcome to Mr S. R. Evison, representing the Canterbury Education Board, at the meeting of the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors last evening. Mr T. Buxton, Dominion organiser for the United Party, arrived from Wellington yesterday and will be in Christchurch till Tuesday, when he intends leaving for Auckland. T. D. Burnett, C. Carr, R. W. Mr McGregor Wright was re-elected chairman at the first meeting of the newly-elected Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors, held last evening. Mr W. R. Gahagan was reelected vice-chairman.
Mr C. h. Hall, manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Bank e ® ou th Wales, has received word or his appointment to an important position with the Bank in Sydney, consequent upon the absorption of the Australian* Bank of Commerce by the Bank of New South Wales. He will be absent from New Zealand for several months. Mr Hall, • with another officer, will assist with the arrangements for the amalgamation of the two Banks. For twenty-seven years Mr Hall has been in the service of the bank, which he joined at tne Lmnedm branch. Subsequently, be was stationed at various brunches throughout Otago until he was appointed accountant at Christchurch. After several years in this position, he became audit officer for six years, prior to being appointed manager at Palmerston North, where he has been for the past three years. Leave of absence was granted to the Principal (Dr. D. E. Hansen), at last night's meeting of the Board o£ Governors of the Christchurch Tech- , nical College, to visit the Dunedin Technical College, where he will study the organisation of the evening j school. 1 !
