PRINCE OF WALES.
PARTICIPATION IN AIR EXERCISES. MISTAKEN FOR A RAIDER. Cfbom otra own cobbbspondent.) LONDON, August 16. On Wednesday the Prince of Wales took part in the air exercises that are in progress this week. He visited the directing staff at Uxbridge and the T.lue troops headquarters. Subsequently he accompanied a Blue bombinp raid against Cranwell and visited the headquarters of. the' Red troops. The Prince flew to Uxbridge in a Fairey 111. F. machine, piloted by Squadron-leader D. 8. Don, from Northolfc. Afterwards when he was flying into Blue Colony he had a most exciting reception, being mistaken in the air for an enemy bomber. A patrol of six fighters spotted the Prince's machine and, unable to distinguish tquadron markings at the distance, assumed the aeroplane to be hostile and dashed in to attack. One by one they came down on to him, diving at great speed and driving the pilot lower and lower towards the ground. Even when he was about to make a landing the fighters continued their assault, evidently enjoying the unfamiliar success of "bringing down onto an enemy aerodrome what they took to be a lone bomber. It was not until long afterwards that the pilots of the patrolling squadron learned that they had been pursuing the Prince of Wales, who was Ister to accompauy their own bombers on an expedition against Red Colony. The Prince appeared to have enjoyed the experience, fie remained on the station for some time and then took off with a squadron of Foxes making their second long journey of the day.
