KAIKOUBA. The Kaikoura Scottish Society met in the Masonic Hall, Chief R. Gibson presiding over a large attendance Amongst those present were Mr anl Mrs J. McGivern, who journeyed from Chrjstchurcb especially for the occasion. Mr P. Suilivan was elected honorary piper to the fcociety. The projected visit of a concert party from the Blenheim Society was discussed, and a committee set up to arrange for the entertainment of the visitors. A ladies' committee, comprising Mrs T Beaton, Mrs B. Gibson, and Mrs J. A Johnston, was appointed to arrange for the next social evening. One new member was elected. During the evening, songs were contributed by Mrs L. J. Kennedy and Messrs E. W. Flower and A. L. Willis; dancing, to music by Piper Sullivan, by Miss O. Cloraett. Miss N. Pluck, and Miss Barker. HANMER SPRINGS. The weather during tho early part of last week was fine and springlike. On Thur»day morning rain set in and continued steadily throughout the dayAfter that the weather became much colder, with rain, enow, and hail at intervals. The hills were coated with a fresh fall of snow. five Hammer Springs Hockey Club held a dance in the hall on Saturday night. There was a large attendance and an enjoyable time was spent. ROTHERHAM. After several days' warm, spring weather, rain sat in on Saturday morning, and there was fresh snow on the hills. Sunday was very wintry, with intermittent rain and snow squalls throughout the day. Snow was still falling yesterday. CUST. The annual meeting of the Oust Tennis Club was held on Saturday evening, whan Mr J, Gilbert presided. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit of £29 4s. The treasurer, in his report, stated that the year had been a most successful one. A number of improvements had been made which had reduced last year's balance by £l7 8s Bd. The subscriptions were fixed at: Man, 10s; ladies, 7s 6d; men joining for tennis and croquet, ISs; ladies, 12s 6d. Opening day waß fixed for Saturday, September 20th. Overend, 8. Wood, and GCryseil; Finance Committee, president, vice-president, captains, secretary, and treasurer. The bachelors and splnßters of the Oust district held a dance on Friday evening. There was a good attendance, and a very enjoyable time was Bpent, Music was supplied by Beach's Orchestra, extras being played by Mrs Bruns den and Mr J. whitham. Messrs C. Johnson and B. Tallott were M.C.'s. The lucky spot dances were won by Miss M. Whitham and Mr J. Raines, and Miss I. Kingsbury and Mr Stevenson. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltzes iwere Miss Parsons and P. Young, and Miss Dixon and Mr Riley. GREENPARK. Despite the boisterous weather conditions on Saturday night, there was a sood attendance at the Greenpvirls Hall Committee's weekly social. The prizes were won bv Mrs W. (Lincoln), Miss R. Schroeder Messrs W. Jordan (Lincoln), and L. Bennett Music for th&_ dance was supplied by Messrs W. Newton (piano; and Eden (cornet). Mr G. Jarman was M.C. The stormy weather over the weekend was very unwelcome to farmers, whose lambing returns are sure to bo affected. On Sunday there were heavy rain and sleet storms, accompanied by a high southerly gale.
