DIOCESAN SYNOD.

ANNUAL SESSION* PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. annua) session of the twmty.flftb Synod ot the Diocese of Cbristchureh U to open at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7th, in the Provincial Council Chamber. In the absence of Bishop West-Watson, who Is in England, tho Very Rev. Dean Julius,, as Vicar-Genoral for the Bishop, will preside. The customary Synod service will be held in the Cathedral at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 6th. The preacher will bo the Rev, H. W. Smith. The following day (Tuesday, October 7th) Holy Communion will be celebrated in the Cathedral at 7.30 a.m.; there will he Matins at 10 a.m., and at 10.30 a.m. a "Quiet Hour" will bo conducted by the Rev. F. R. Rawle. Members of Synod and their wives will be the guests of Deaq and Mr* Julius at a garden party at the Deanery at 2.30 p.m. The session will open in the Provincial Council Chamber at 4 p.m., when the president will delivei his address. There will be a conference of clergy only on Thursday at 10 a.m., and of the laity on Friday at 10 a.m.: both will be hold in the Board room, Church House. The Ven. Archdeacon P. B, Haggltt and Mr E. H. 8. Hamilton have been appointed a Committee of Hospitality The wives of the Christchurch clergy, with assistance from thtt parishes and from the Standing Committee, will pro vlfln tea to all members of Svnod, their wires, and hosts and hostesses on each evening of the first week of Synod. Matters for Consideration. Amongst matters given notice of for consideration are motions for leave to introduce a Bill to amend the financial regulations to make provision for a Diocesan Provident Fund (Mr K. M Gresson); a Bill to amend the Pension Fund Regulations for the purpose of in creasing the benefits thereunder, and of altering the conditions of membership of the fund (Mr E. G. Hogg); a Bill to enable the Diocese of Christchurch to become associated with the Provincial Pension Fund (Mr E. G. Hogg); and a Bill to amend the Pension Fund Regulations with a view to joining the Provincial Pension Fund (Mr E. G. Hogg). The Rev. Canon J. de B. Galwey in to move the appropriation of the Church Property Trust General Estate Bubsidy for 1930-31. The total available is £7566 12s Bd, and the suggested appropriation is: Diocesan Board of Education, £1500; Clergy Pension Trust Board, £600; grants to cures (according to scale) £2450; vicarage grants (one), £SO; assistant curate grants, £300; overhead travelling expenses, £950;. motor-car loans, £150; Church extension grants, £200: Church extension work. £350: diocesan adminis tration, £500; women's work (for ? rants to - workers and to trainees), 100; surpJus at discretion of Standing Committee, £416 12s BcL Mr; W E. D. Bishop is to move that the Obrlstchnrch Synod agrees that the legacy of £IOOO to the General Suatentntion Fmid of the Anglican Church of New Zealand, and the legacy of £SOO to the Home Mission Fund, tmder the will of James Palmer Campbell, be allocated to the Central Fund for Church Extension and Home Mission Work of the Diocese of Auckland; that the terms of this resolution be communicated to the -other dioceses, and in the event of any of them not consenting to the Auckland Diocese receiving the legacies the Standing Committee be empowered to represent the Christchurch Bynod, The election of the Standing Committee is to take place at 3.30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9th, and of the Diocesan Education Board the following day at the same honir. .
