MAYOR RECEIVES A PRESENT.
PHOTOGRAPH OF DUKE OF YORK ff One of the things either burned or stolen when fire was laid to the Mayor's house last year was a signed photograph of the Duke of York, presented to Mr Archer during the Duke's tour of New Zealand in 1927. His Royal Highness having heard through the Lady Alice Fergusson of this misfortune has graciously sent another photograph, neatly framed in leather and autographed, "Albert, '930." It arrived on Saturday, accompanied by the following letter: 145 Piccadilly, W.l. "The Duke of York has heard from Lady Alice Fergusson of the losses you have sustained through burglary which included his photograph. His Royal Highness desires me to offer you his sympathy, and, at the same time, to forward you under separate cover a fresh portrait of himself, which he hopes you will accept as a token of his gratitude for all the trouble you took to give him such n delightful time in ChristehnrcTi three vears afro."
