DOPING.
CLUB MEMBER'S ALLEGATIONS.
At last night's meeting' of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club a startling statement was made by Dr. M. G. Louisson that doping was a practice adopted by both galloping and trotting trainers. He thought it advisable for officials of both racing and trotting clubs, occasionally during the meetings, thoroughly to Inspect a horse or two to make certain that doping was not indulged In, and to make it a kind of routine procedure. It was the sort of thing that should be done at meetings to show that the stewards were wideawake to the fact that doping was going on. He knew that doping did go on to a certain extent) and it should be understood that if a horse were doped the responsibility should rest on the trainer. Mr Ollivier, the ehalrman, sala that Dr. Louisson had said that he knew that doping was going on. If that was the case it was bis duty to report the matter to the officials. Mr Ollivier said that trotting, like all other sports, had to withstand a lot of criticism, but some of the criticism was not just, and was damaging to the sport. Personally he did not know of any cases of doping. No resolution was passed, but it was suggested that the matter of doping as alleged by Dr. Louisson should be kept out of the papers. A voice: Leave it to the Press. There the matter ended.
