BY-ELECTION.
VACANCY ON CITY COUNCIL. ■ There is some speculation as to the candidate to be nominated by tho Citizens' Association to contest tho City Council by-elcction, rendered necessary by tho death pf Cr. F 11. Cooke, but so far no official announcement has been' made. The first meeting of tho recently-elected General Committee of tho Association is to bo held to-morrow night, when matters relating to the by-election will be discussed. Possibly the first matter to be decided will be whether cr not the Association will nominate a candidate. Tho nomination of Mr G. R Hunter on behalf of the Labour Party, was received yesterday by the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville). It was signed by Messrs H. Worrall and E. Parlane.
