BUILDING IN THE SUBURBS. The depression in the building industry is reflected in the statistics prepared by five local bodies governing areas contiguous to Chrlstchurch or in the vicinity of the City. The following figures give the value of the construction authorised in the first six months of this year, those for the corresponding period of 1928 being also supplied for purposes of comparison:— 1925.
