AKAROA HOTEL.

AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT. ! CATERING FOR HOLIDAYMAKERS. i JPlans for Hotel Akaroa, the big chateau which it is proposed to erect at the port of the Peninsula, have 'now been completed, and an attractive pros* pectus has been issued for the guidance of investors. The site chosen 1b at the corner of Cross and Jolie streets, in the centre of the town, and has a sea frontage of approximately 250 feet. The Akaroa golf links and tenniß courts are in close proximity to the hotel, and in addition putting tennis courts, bowling green, and croquet lawn will be provided in the hotel grounds. Special attention will bo given to a roof garden and a cabaret. Provision will be made for a swimming bath and a jetty in front of the hotel for the convenience of gueßts who are attracted by the beauties of the harbour or by the excellent sport which Akaroa affords the fisherman.

Accommodation will be provided in the hotel for 150 guests; it will contain 80 rooms.

The architect, Mr H. Francis Williß, giving details of the plan, stated that the building will be constructed of reinforced concrete, column, girdor, beam, and slab principlo, having hollow tile partitions, and brick curtain wallß. The external finish will be of cement tinted in terra-cotta, buff, and yellow. Ceilings and walls throughout the building will be of insulated plaster. The lounges, dining-room, foyer hall, etc., are to be of rough texture finish in travertine and similar style, \jrith enrichments of bronze finish. All timber finishings are in rimu and mahogany, stained and polished. Furnishings will be in colours to harmonise with the various settings, and will be of the most modern design. This applies also to floorings, carpets, and curtains. The bedrooms will be equipped in accordance with the most modern standards of comfort, and will be finished in flat colours such as sea green, pale blue, fawn, ivory, old ivory, coral, etc., with fittings to tone in flat enamel. Each bedroom will have a built-in dressing-table fitting, lavatory basin, and telephone.

Ample bath and lavatory accommodation is provided on each floor for both sexes. Special provision ia made for ladies travelling with young children, in the form of n nursery oponing on to a sun balcony. This nursery will have a suitable numbor of cots and cubicles, and will have a qualified nurße in attendance.

A shop opening off the hall will enable guests to purchase eigarettCß, papers, toilet requisites, etc., and ft halrdressing saloon and postal facilities will be provided. Central heating will be installed throughout the building, and hot water will be obtainable at all times at every bedroom basin. The lighting installed in the building and grounds will be modern and efficient, with attractive fittings. Kitchen arrangements will be thoroughly up-to-dato, and according to the most modern principles a refrigerator storo and laundry will be provided in the building. Oarage accommodation for approximately twenty can is Incorporated in the lay-out. Every possible provision is made, in the form of balconies and piawaa with French and sliding doors, to ensure the maximum of sunshine reaching the bedrooms, lounges, and diaing-room. Afternoon tea may be served on the large balcony area above the dining-room ana lounge. The flat roof of the main building will be put to good use as an openair skating rink and promenade garden.
