AKAROA.

A general meeting of shareholders of the Akaroa Co-operative •'Butter Company was held, when the chairman (Mr F. G. Armstrong) presided, over an attendance of 28. The meeting was for the purpose of ascertaining whether tho shareholders would be prepared to sell the factory site if an oner were forthcoming. The chairman gave details of tho progress of the company during the past few years, and said that its financial position was sound. There had been an increase of 13 tons in the butter produced this season, as compared with last vear. Several suggestions were made bv those present, one being that the company should sell its site, and combine with the Takamatua, Cheese Factory. After a long discussion it was decided that the directors be recommended to sell the land and buildings provided they could secure an offer of £SOOO. Two competitions have been completed by the members of the Akaro3 Golf Club. In tho final for tho Armstrong Cup Dr. J. N. Waddell defeated F. G. Armstrong one up. The Waddell trophy was won by Mrs W. A._ Newton, and J. G. Lelievre, 2 up, Miss E. M. Jacobson and G. Lelievre being runners-up. A dance, organised by the Scout Committee, was very successful. Those mainly responsible were' Mesdames J. E. Armstrong, C. Petterson, R. L. Paterson, and W. E. M. Jacobson. CHORLTON-LITTLE AKALOA. Miss Stops, organising secretary of the Women's Institute, paid a visit to Banks Peninsula. She addressed a meeting in the Little Alcaloa Schoolroom, but the weather was stormy, and the attendance was not as large as was expected. After explaining the objects of the Institute, and exhibiting many articles made by members of the Institute. Miss Stops was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A branch was formed, with Mrs Hunter president; Mrs Atkinson, vice-president; Mrs Salt, secretary; and Mr 3 Ashton, treasurer. It was decided to hold the meetings on tho first Thursday of each month. The Chorlton Rifle Club held a hall to commemorate the first anniversary of the club. The committee responsible were Messrs R. E. Waghorn, A. Craw, C. Mason, and G. Boleyn (secretary). Visitors were present from all parts of the Peninsula, and even further afield. Music was supplied by Mr R. Wood's band. BROADFIELD. A match was played between tho Broadfield and Prebbleton ladies' basketball teams. It ended in a win for the home team, the scores being 18 to 6. Tho game was referced by Miss Dearsley. LINCOLN. The following is the meteorological report for June, as recorded at the Agricultural College, Lincoln, figures in brackets being for Juno of last year:— Mean barometer (m.5.1.) 29.994 (29.779), mean temperature at 9 a.m., 39.6deg. (44.5deg.); mean humidity at 9 a.m., 84.8 (90), mean maximum temperature 51.4deg. ,(54.1deg.); mean minimum temperature, 32.9deg. (37.0dcg.); mean minimum on grass, 26.1deg. (32.0 deg.); extreme maximum temperaturo 59.3dcg. (71dcg.); extreme minimum temperature 22.1deg. (26.5deg.); extreme graßß minimum 17.4deg. (22deg.); mean miles of wind per day 71.6 (76.6); mean number of hours of sunshine 5.1 (3.8); total rainfall 1.238 in (4.325 in); number of days with rain 11 (11). June was a fairly cold month, with a record number of frosts. Growth is practically at a standstill, and a ■ good -deal of winter feeding—turnips and hay—is being carried out. The owes are in quite good condition. The last of .the potatoes are. now being dug. A meeting of the Ladies' Basketball Club was held, when Mis» B. Taylor presided over a good attendance. It was decided to hold a dance this month, and a committee was set up to mako arrangements for it.
