GKEYMOUTH, May 28,

Two West Coast pioneers, Mr and Mrs John Pascoe, of Groymouth, and formerly of Rutherglen, will celebrate the diamond jubilee of thei» wedding on Saturday next.

County Council. The annual meeting of the Grey County Council was held to-day. Present: Crs. J. W. Hannan (chairman), H. G. Carter, W. Ogilvie, G. Blair, J. Mulcare, A. Donnellan, A. Robinson, J. Ryall, and A. McDonnell. The county clerk presented the chairman's annual report and statement of receipts and expenditure for the year to Marnh fllat, 1930. The county engineer presented a report on the operations, roading, etc., carried out in the county during the year. The chairman's report recorded the total revenue for the year at £56,900, and the expenditure at £55,096. The expenditure for the last six years had been: 1925, £31,212; 1926, £32,184; 1927, £33,803; 1928, £33,992; 1929, £41,925; 1930, £55,096. Cr. Hannan nominated Cr. Ogilvie for the position of chairman for the ensuing year. Or. Mulcare nominated Cr. Carter. Cr. Ogilvie was declared elected by five votes to four. A deputation from the West Coast Rugby League Centre waited on the Council and asked that a footpath be made from the Coai Creek bridge to Wingham Park. < The engineer reported that the path, with planks placed over the small creeks would cost about £75. It was resolved to authorise an expenditure of £IOO on forming the path. It was decided that the Council make t tour of inspection of the county roads. The members of the Council after the annual meeting mado a visit to Grey Hospital. Lake Kanieri. It is expected that a party of about thirty men will be put on the Dorothy Falls road construction at Lake Kanieri next week, A camp is being erected along the route of the new line to complete the road to the falls. The road will be shorter than the track at present following round the lakeside. A substantial sum will be available for the work, which will be under a resident overseer. Obituary. The death took place at Westport last night of Mr Charles Levy, eldest son of Mr Joseph Levy, of that town, and a former well-known resident of Hokitika. He was about thirty years of age, and a native of Westport. He had been ill for a considerable time, and leaves a widow and two children.

Walho Post Office. A proposal is afoot to change the name of the Waiho Gorge Post and Telephone Office to Franz Josef, and local opinion is now being consulted on the matter. So far it is understood that very little opposition has been voiced to the suggestion. Westland County. The Westland County Council's annual meeting was held to-day. Present: Crs, B. Ward (chairman), J. A. Murdoch, T. E. Chesterman, H. Wells, J. Donovan, M. Keenan, W. Searlc, W. Jeffries, and M. H. Houston. Nominations for the chairmanship for the ensuing year were invited. Mr Murdoch nominated Mr Searle, and Mr Keenan nominated Mr Jeffries. Mr Searle was elected by six votes to three. Wedding.

The wedding took place yesterday at St. Patrick's Church, of William, youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr A. Flaherty, of Cobden, and Florence, second youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Wright, of Pukekura. The bride wore an ivory georgette and lace anklelength frock, and a beautifully embroidered veil which formed a train. She also wore a coronet of orange blossom and pearls, and carried a shower bouquet. Silver brocade shoes and stockings completed a charming toilet. Miss Alice Wright was chief bridesmaid, and wore a frock of apricot celanese satin, while Miss Kathleen Poster, niece of the bride, wore primrose celanese. They wore mob caps and carried posies to tone with their frc»ks. Mr J. J. Flaherty was best man and Mr W. Wright was groomsman. The Kev. Father O'Doherty of Ross, officiated, assisted by Father Healey. After the ceremony the guests were entertained by the bride's parents, Mrs Wright wearing a handsome black satin frock and coat with hat and fur to tone. Mr and Mrs Flaherty left by express for Christchurch on their honeymoon tour, Mrs Flaherty travelling in a russet-brown costume and hat, and furs to match.
