TAXATION OF PROFITS.
CRICKET COUNCIL PROTESTS. Last night, at a meeting of the Management Commit too of tho New Zealand Cricket Council advice was received regarding the profits shown on tho various matches played in Australia, by the M.C.O. team. In West Australia the match had resulted in a satisfactory profit, and the share due to the Council wan £316, whilst for the game against Houth Australia a profit of £390 was due to he forwarded to New Zealand. The match in Sydney had, as expected, resulted in a profit to the Council of about £2OOO. A complication, however, had arisen in connexion with this game, as thfl Common wealth taxation authorities had decided to charge tho Council income tax at the rate of 4s in the £. If this was enforced, it, would result, in a loss of approximately £SOO to the, Council. Considerable dissatisfaction regarding this decision was shown by members of the committee, it being pointed out that already a large sum had been paid into the Treasury in the form of amuse nient tax. After a discussion, in which strong exception was taken to what wan termed the "money-grubbing" action of the Australian authorities, it was unani monsly decided to forward »<h appeal against the apparently unfair charge.
