SOUTH BRIGHTON.

MEETING OF PROGRESS LEAGUE The South Brighton Progresa League decided at Tuesday night's meeting to seek affiliation with the Canterbury Progress lieague, being keenly interested in ihe proposal to establish direct access to Lytteitoc, via Sumner. The Canterbury Progress League ha» promised to consider adopting the idea as one of its schemes, and Mr J. S. Ainaworth was elected as the Brighton League's representative. Mr W. Hulme was appointed the League'* representative on the New Brighton-Sum-ner Programme Committee of the .New Brighton Borough Council. A letter from the Council stated that a proposal to hold a carnival on the foreshore during the Christmas and Ne v Year holidays would be discussed. The effort would be made with the object of raising funds for effecting improvements to the New Brighton foreshore and spcrts grounds. A letter from the New Brighton Greater Progress Association stated that two members each from the North and South would be accepted as members to its executive. Mr J. Oeborn had been appointed as a representative from the South and Mt H. Burley from the North. The letter asked the League to appoint the othep representative for its district. Considerable discussion took place on the method adopted by the central body in appointing delegates itself. Mr A. Hulme was appointed the League's second representative. The Christchurch Tramway Board wrote that in response to representation from the League it ha<3 been decided, by arrangement with Mr E. Smith, to extend a few tripo from the present terminus to Jellicpe street without an increase fare. The change would commence on November Ist, and would be a trial only. One trip on a Sunday during March and April (3.48 p.m. from Union street) would be deleted. The Board also stated that an endeavour would be made to fit in the school trips, although diPF.culty was being experienced in this connexion.
