A deputation from the Wharenui School Committee waited on the Council to ask it to reverse its decision to ciiarge for the work of pumping the water from the baths prior to cleaning operations. Mr T. Haberfiold said that the baths did not belong to the swimming club, nor to the School Committee, but to the district, having been built on <he occasion of the King's coronation. The School Committee, which was not a wealthy body, took on the work of clean' ing the baths. There were no other bath# in the district, and these were there for a very email subscription—the fee that the swimming club asked. Tbe cost to the Council of pumping out ths baths would ba verv small, and indeed the operation would be "done only about six or eight '.imcs a year. In answer to the Deputy-Mayor, Mi HabertieH said that he would be prepared to supply a statement of the receipts and expenditure. Mr T A. Gfites, headmaster of the Wharerui School, said that last year pupils of the f chool gained 15 certificates for swimming. They were a very important factor in the outdoor life of the school. The Deputy-Mayor said that the matter would receive sympathetic consideration and a decision would be made when the statement of receipts and expenditure was received. Summonses Issued. ifessra Johnston, Mills, and White advised the Council that summonses had been issued against two ratepayers for collection of overdue rates. These were being regarded as test cases Tre« Meat. Mr V. E. Dockery wrote saying that he had been often asked for meat, by poor people, and he was prepared to hand over to the City Council meat to the value of £25 for free distribution to deserving cases in the borough. He suggested that the meat should be distributed on the recommendation of responsible people, such »• clergymen, headmasters, etc., and that tickets for meat to the value of 5a be distributed in each case. The offer was accepted with thanks, Cr. Malcolmson being appointed to co-operate with the headmaster of the Wharenui School and a minister, with the Mayor to act ex officio. "No Parking" Signs. The North Canterbury Farmers' Union wrote suggesting that the "no parking" notices at the saleyards be now removed, as the Council had made additional parking apace available. Cr. That the grader be used periodically as required during the next month. That footpaths in the western area be patched at an eariv date. That the motor truck be only used for rubbish collection in future, save, of course, for any contingency that may arise. That an account from the Christchurch City Council for £2O 14s 7d, representing 35 per cent, of the maintenance of North Park road be held up until further information is obtained in connexion therewith. That in connexion with boundary roads the following arrangement with Waimairi County Counel be approved: Controlling authority, Kiccarton borough: Straven load, 10 chains; Blenheim road, from east, 54 chains; Riccarton road, 2 chains; total, 66 chains. Controlling au thority. Waimairi County Council: Clyde road. 22 chains; Wharenui road, 40 chains, Blenheim road, from west, 15 chains; total, 77 chains. Conditions: Control and maintenance to extend to water table; widening or channel construction to be paid for and carried out by the local bodv on which lid® of the road the work is done; when Riccarton road is permanently constructed, Waimairi and Riccarton each to pay 50 per cent, of the cost. It was decided that the Waimairi County Council be written to, asking that immediate attention be. given to Clyde road.

NEW BRIGHTON. The New Brighton Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr J. H. Shaw), Crs. F. D. Muirson, A. E. Lawry, J. b. Ainsworth. ti. W. Bishop, R. Stokes, J. ilcCreanor, S. Bargrove, and E. Smith. The application of the South N«w Brighton Surt Bathing and Life Saving Club for a site ior a club pavilion, as approved by a sub-oonimittee of the Council, was approved. A ratepayer wrote complaining of insufficient lighting in the centre of Kepple street. This was referred to the chairman of the Electricity Committee. Cr. Lawry, chairman of the Reserves Committee, recommended that 1200 trees, comprising 500 macrocarpa, 500 pinue insignia, tvnd 200 gums be planted at the end of Jeilicoe Restive. This was agreed to. A sub-committee reported having met representatives of the Waimairi County Council, when the following recommendations were nn.tually agreed upon: I That the sum of £SO, including flO received from the Canterbury Automobile Association, be expended _in constructing • parking place 15 feet on either side of Beach road; the New Brighton Borough Council to do the work and charge Waimairi with half the cost. That tho "Waimairi County Council prepare an estimate of making a roadway t4r to the beach at the corner of the Esplanade and Beach road, and to apply to the Canterbury Automobile Association and Pioneer Sports Club for a donation towards the work That the Waimairi County Council fascine two chains of the sandhill on Beach road. That a street lamp be provided at the j comer of Britannia street and Beach road i and one at the corner of the Esplanade and Beach road. Tuat Beach road be maintained by the New Brighton Borough Council as at present, charging the Waimairi County Council with half the cost. That Racecourse road from the Bower bridge to Saltaire street be measured, and that the Waimairi County Council maintain the southern half and the New Brighton Borough Council the balance to Saltaire street, the southern portion to be maintained, by the New Brighton Borough Council and the balance by the Waimairi County Conncil. These were confirmed.
