A NEW ROAD.
PROPOSED NAMES. Four names from which to make a selection were submitted to the Riccarton Borough Council last night by the contractors, Messrs C. K. Page and Sens, tor the new road off Deans's avenue. They were Western terrace, West Town terrace, Xumanu avenue, and Royal lane The Councillors were nut impresesd with the selection, Cr F. 8. Wilding objecting to the word •'lane," and other Councillors suggesting that there was duplication in some cases. Cr. H. W. Wise favoured the name Reynolds avenue as a compliment to the first Mayor of the borough, whose property incidentally abutted on t-o the road. The Council were unanimous that none of the tour names suggested was suitable, and it was decided to suggest to Page and Sons that it be called Reynolds avenue as a compliment to the first Mayor of the borough. The Deputy-Mayor: When I see this concrete work breaking up I think there will l>e a large expense coming to us if we let this sort of thing gc on in the fiittir#.
