RUGBY. CANTERBURY UNION. MERIVALE V. ALBION. To-day's Oval game between Albion and Merivale should provide an interesting struggle. Much interest will attach to the series, tor Rugby patrons now realise that anything may happen. It is a long time since so many teams have sustained such a large number of defeats, with a result that the ultimate winner is hard to pick. Albion played well in the mud last Saturday, and Merivale, though held for a time by Linwood, ultimately prevailed, demonstrating that they are at home under heavy weather conditions. The game should develop into a hard forward struggle, and the issue will no doubt be very open, as there is practically nothing between the sides on the day. Should the Albion pack exert themselves eariy in the piece, they will have a big say in the result. On the south ground Old Boys meet Linwood. The ground conditions may operate to nullify any superiority that the former may have, and a very even game should be seen. Sydenham meet West Old Boys on the west ground, and at the Show Grounds Christchurch play Technicat. The senior B match, Christchurch v. Albion, has been transferred to the Show Grounds from Beckenham Park.

Th« semi-final of the Canterbury club championship will be played this afternoon at English Park, commencing at 2.45. between the Western and the Rangers Clubs. The winners of the Canterbury championship play the champion club of Otago, and the South Island play the winners of the North Island. The championship of New Zealand has been won once by Canterbury when Sunnyside were the victors. This club championship is very highly prized by the clubs, and in order to w>n it every club puts forward its greatest effort. The Western Club, who were defeated last week by the narrow margin of only one goal, and this a penalty goal, by Thistle, will be all out this afternoon, but taking into consideration the fine performances nut up by the Rangers Club of late it should be a really good battle. The spectators will be assured of being able to witness a very keen and fast exhibition of the code. It should be one of the best games witnessed at English Park this season.
