RICHMOND KINDERGARTEN COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting was held in the school, members present being Miss Tabart (iu the chair), Mesdames Marshall. Reaby, Pyne, West, Foreythe, Wilcox, Hitchcock. Miss Macilraith, Mesdames Darwin and Ramshaw. The school roll was 35, average attendance 28, parents' subscription £1 10s. Miss Jacobsen reported much more regular attendance among the children. At an afternoon gathering Miss Hull addressed the mothers on "Characteristics of Child Nature," and as the outcome of the meeting a Kindergarten Guild was formed, the meetings to be held monthly. Earlv in the month the parents committee had organised a dance at Dixieland and the sum of £4 7s was raised, to be used as a nucleus of the new school buildine fund. Visitors during the month were Mrs Thacker, Mrs Gilkinson (Lurnsden), Miss Labatt, and from the committee Mesdames Marshall and Reaby. Amongst other business it was decided to hold a "brina and buy" afternoon at the end of July, when it is hoped the many friends of the kindergarten will help in a practical manner.

PLUNKET SOCIETY. On Tuesday Mrs Cracroft Wilson and Mrs Cecil Wood visited Hornby, to form a sub-branch of the Society in the Hornby-Islington district. Mrs Thomson, of Islington, kindly convened a public meeting, which was held in the Anglican schoolroom and was well attended. Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson spoke of the advantages which would accrue to the mothers and babies in the district if it could be arranged for the Plunket nurse to call once a week, and thus save the mothers and babies the lon 2 visit tr. the Christchureh rooms. It was decided to form a sub-branch and Mrs Thomson was elected president, Mesdames Palmer and Nolan joint secretaries and treasurers, and the following ladies agreed to act on the committee : Mesdames Scott, Huffadine, Woodham, Manson, Simpson, Wastnev, McLachlan, Barnes, Cariyon, Russiter. Spieer, F T. Scott, Joyce, Hubert Jones, and Pulley. It was decided that the nurse should visit Hornby once a week, and that the committee should meet monthly. PARTY AT ASHLEY BANK. On Monday evening a very successful surprise party was taken to the residence of Mr and Mrs L. F. Harris by their neighbours. The evening was spent in cards, prizes being won by Mrs H. Ludeman and Mr A. Stewart and Miss Castles and Mr H. Pateman. Two competitions were won by Miss K. Clarke and Mr Ritchie and Miss J. Collie and Mr H. Pateman. A dainty supper was served by the ladies, after which Mr Pateman presented Mr and Mrs Harris, who are leaving the district, with a small memento of the occasion. Selections on che bagpipes, given by Messrs Collie and Ritchie, were much appreciated.

STILLWELL'S DANCE ASSEMBLY. A carnival dance will be held next Saturday at the Caledonian Hall hy Mr Reg. Stillwell's Dance Assembly. Spotlight dances will be featured, and during the evening the fox-trot contest will be continued. The winners of last Saturday's contest were Miss Bridges and Mr Witford. EARTHQUAKE BENEFIT DANCE. A long night benefit dance, in aid of the West Coast relief fund, will be held on Tuesday next at the Papanui Town Hall by Mr Reg. Stillwell's Dance Assembly. Three bands will supply continuous dance music, commencing at 8 p.m. and finishing at 1 a.m. Waltz and fox-trot contests will be arranged and hundreds of entertaining novelties will be distributed.
