CAMPAIGN FOR SUPPRESSION. (tf*l-£J> PRBSS ASSOCIATION—BT ILICTBIC TELEGRAPH —COPTBJGBT.) SHANGHAI, July 5. Following the example of the authorities of the International Settlement, Shanghai is exterminating all unlicensed forms of organised gambling in an effort to reduce the motives for crime. The French Settlement authorities have announced a similar plan, and simultaneously raided several popular roulettf establishments, arresting hundreds of people of various nationalities. Five similar institutions were recently closed, and their Mexican operators are at present undergoing trial in the Chinese Provisional Court. —Australian Press Association.
