Lawn (Hokitika) is visiting Westport. Mr George Kay has been appointed harbourmaster at Karamea, vice Captain J. Cuttance, who has left for Hokitika. Mr and Mrs G. N. Hawken (Karamea) left yesterday on a holiday to Christchurch. i Mr W. M. Kerr, of the Westport : Post Office staff, accompanied by Mrs I iverr, left Greymouth for Christchurch , yesterday. Mr H. 8. Fredericks, wireless operator of the P. and T. Department, arrived from Wellington yesterday to take up duty at the Greymouth office, j Mr and Mrs C. A. They were accompanied by Mrs Brown, of Westport. Mr ana Mrs W. Jackson, of Cobden, left yesterday for Christchurch on holiday. Mr G. Deare, boiler inspector for the South Island Railways, is visiting < Otira. j Mr J. Connor, Hallway Westinghouse brake inspector for the South Island, ! who has been visiting the West Coast, returned yesterday to Christchurch. Mr A. Whisker, coal supervisor for New Zealand Railways, left yesterday for Christchurch and Wellington. Sergeant-Major L. Shuttleworth, of the Grey Defence Office staff, left yesterday to attend a training course at Trentham. Mr D J. Evans, of Hokitika, left for Christchurch yesterday. He was accompanied by Miss M. Evans, who will spend some time in the North Island. Mrs Walsh, wife of Mr Charles Walsh, died in the Westport Hospital on Friday. Mrs Walsh, who was a ! daughter of Mr and Mrs Hopgood, of Cape Foulwind, was 29 years of age. She leaves three daughters and two sons. The death of Mr William Butler, an underground manager at the Westport Coal Company's mines for many years, took place in the Westport Hospital on Friday. Mr .Butler leaves a widow and family of six children. Additions to Grey Mais School. Following a recent inspection of the Grey Main School by the Department's architect, the Minister for Education (the Hon. Mr Atmore) h* s advised the School Committee that he will give tb: matter of roviding three additional class-rooms his urgent attention. The architect stated that the holding of classes in the entrance to the school was a menace to the safety of the children in case of fire or earthquake, and it would have to done away with. The committee ha 3 decided to secure additional accommodation outside the school pending the erection of new cla«i-rooms. Thanksgiving Sewices. The weather was showery and militated against the attendance, the latter game being a benefit for the Hokitika Earthquake Belief Fnnd.
