ARRIVAL IN WELLINGTON. J (?RSS£ ASSOCIATION :iU3EiK ' I j WELLINGTON, July 6. The Emden arrived at eight o 'clock and a twenty-one-gun salute was fired from Point Jemingham. The ship | berthed at Clyde Quay. Mr W. Penseler, the German Consul for New Zealand, went aboard, and also Lieut.-Commander C J. M. Lyons, of the Naval Department About £OO people turned up in the vicinity of the wharf to witness the arrival. During the morning a series of formal calls were made by the commander, Captain von Arnauld, to the GovernorGeneral, the Harbour Board, the Mayor and the Navy Department, and these are being returned later in the day. Captain von Arnaold was accompanied by Mr Penseler. The weather is fine, assuring a good time for the men who come ashore.

It was recently announced, states the "Public Service Journal/' that as the resuit of the postponement of the five-yearly regrading, which in the ordinary course was due on April Ist last, the Public Service Commissioner Lad undertaken to isiue a special classification list early in the current financial year, providing for payment of annua! increments that may be due. Vhia will not now be issued, on account of the fact that in the first week in June the Public Service Commissioner completed arrangements providing for these payments, which have made it unnecessary to go to the exponas of printing a special classification list. Ere these words are read, adds the Journal, the majority of public servant* due for scale increments will probably have enjoyed the benefit*
