PERSONAL. The Rev. G. Miller, of North East Valley, is visiting Ashburton. Mr L. W. Gorman, B.Ag., of Ashbur ton, has been notified of hi* appointment as assistant agrostologist at the Plant Research Station, Palmerston North. He leaves to take up his new duties to-day. Cars Collide. A sevea-seater car driven by J. Jsckson, taxi-driver, collided with * tareeseater car driven by W. W. Ksye, a commercial traveller, in East street, yesterday. Jackson was turning out from the taxi stand to proceed towards the Post Office when the other car came up from behind, with a re* suit that the bumper-bar of the big car caught the left-hand rear mudguard of the small one, tearing it away from the body. Picnic from Temuka. The precincts of the Domain were enlivened yesterday, when about 800 children, parents, and friends of the Temuka District High School held their annual picnic. Ideal weather experienced by the party, whieh arrived by special train about 10.15 a.m. The j majority visited the town before ad--1 journing to the Domain, where races and games were held. Hot water and milk were supplied by the Borough Council. A bowling match between fonr rinks of the Ashburton and Temuka Bowling Clubs, and a tennis match between the Ashburton and Temuka Tennis Clubs was played. Hakatsrs Lodge. Seven brothers were reported siek at the fortnightly meeting of Hakatere Lodge, No. 68, 1.0.0. F., held on Wednesday. The N.G. (Bro. H. W. Slade) presided. Correspondence was received from the D.D.G.M. (Bro. D. Newman) regarding a combined meeting to be held at Rakaia on Mareh sth, and it was decided to attend the meeting. With reference to the visit to be paid to Washington Lodge (Christchnreh) on February 23rd, several members intimated that they would be making the trip, and it was reported that about a dozen members of the Daphne (Rebe kah) Lodge would also be present. Sick grants totalling £l2 were passed for payment. Telephone 142. —1 METHVEN. The Rev. B. Brown, formerly of Whakatane, vicar-elect of Methven, paid a visit to the district on Tuesday. Mr S. Bockett, postmaster, is on annual leave. Mr N. Dews is acting as postmaster during Mr Buekett's absence. The annual meeting of subscribers to the Public Library was held on Tuesday evening, Mr W. J. Owen presiding over a small attendance. The annual report showed that the past year had been a successful one, with a small increase In the number of subscribers. The balance-sheet revealed a debit balance of £4 7s, but against this there was rent due *¥or the spare rooms let to the Education Board, amounting to about £2O.
