It ia understood that a Board of Enquiry is being appointed to investigate contracts for the building of aeroplanes for the Defence Department in connexion with which M. L. Shepherd, secretary of tha Australian Defcne® Department, has been suspended. The enquiry is likely to be protracted, pending the return of Colonel Brinamead, head of the Department, who is visiting the United States.— Australian Press Association. [A recent message stated that Shepherd, who was secretary of the Defence Department, had been suspended from duty. The reason wa.« not stated officially, but it waa understood that it was connected with the Civil Aviation Department, tha Minister being reticent.]
