BRITAIN AND CHINA.
♦ RELATIONS RESUMED. (UNITBD PRESS ASSOCIATION— BY ELECTBIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 28th, 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, December 28. The "Daily Mail" regards the An-glo-Chinese Treaty, the text of which was published to-day, as a British diplomatic triumph, restoring friendly relations and opening up great trade possibilities. "Britain," the journal states, "gives a lead to the world in being the first foreign Power to sign a treaty with the new Chinese Government." —United Service. TERMS OF NEW TREATY. LONDON, December 27. The Anglo-Chinese Treaty, signed at Nanking on December 20th, has been released by the Foreign Office. It reveals the abrogation of all existing treaties limiting the right of China to settle a national Customs tariff or impose tonnage dues in accordance with her own desires.. The annexe provides for a similar renunciation on behalf of the Dominions, including Australia and New Zealand, of any such rights. China in return grants Great Britain and the Dominions most favoured nation treatment. —Australian Press Association.
