BEAM STATION FIRE.
SERIOUS DAMAGE FEARED. (united press association— by electeio TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received December 28th, 11.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 28. Fire occurred at the Beam wireless station to-day about 3 o'clock, and threatened to destroy the whole establishment, together with the £30,000 equipment. The Beam station is at south-west Ballarat, eight miles from Ballan. The fire had been burning for an hour and a half when the brigade arrived from Ballarat, 28 miles distant. The officials had removed the expensive valves, but were powerless to fight the fire. Details are meagre.—Australian Press Association.
