Messrs G. Simpson (president), W. Glue (senior vice-president), and W. H. VVinsor (secretary) were appointed to represent the Association at the Federation's annual conference to be held on February 20th, 1929, and following days at The Hermitage, Mount Cook. Timber Industry BUI. Mr J, W. Graham moved: "That a remit be sent to the conference: 'That consideration be given to the Timber Industry Efficiency Bill.' He thought that they should reserve their criticism till they had more informar tion about the Bill. He referred to some of the proposals under the measure such as the setting up of a Board to administer the Act. and the raising of a levy to provide it with funds. Information was required to show that the Bill was in the interest of builders. Mr Winsor said builders wanted the best timber and he assumed that the effect of the Bill (when it became an Act/ would be to suggest means for the use of inferior timber. He thought that this would be difficult unless revision was made that such timber could be used in workers' dwellings that the worker did not want to exceed £6OO in cost. The strongest specifications that builders got was in respect of workers' dwellings—3s per cent of neart timber was to be used. In this country, and it was a great thing to say, the worker got as good timber in his dwelling as the richest in the land. The chairman said it seemed as if they were going to get rid of the good timber by export and leave the inferior for use in the country. The motion' was agreed to. Insurance of Workmen. An opinion by Mr A. Gray, K.C., of Wellington, regarding the insurance of workmen under clause 25 of general conditions of contract, was read. It was to the effect that when doing architect's work the contractor should see that all sub-contractors have their workers insured. Otljer Matters. It was decided to vote the customary amount, £7 7s, to the funds of the Technical College. Mr J. Lorimer gave an interesting talk descriptive of his tour with the team of New Zealand bowlers. He was accorded a vote of thanks.
