FRAUDULENT ENTRY.
■ 4 ATTEMPT TO DECEIVE POST OFFICE.
[TEE PBBSS Special Service.] DUNBDIN, November 6. An entry for a deposit of £ls in a Savings Bank pass book made by herself led to the appearance of a married woman in the Magistrate's Court this morning. Accused, who was represented by Mr O J. White, pleaded guilty to making the entry, knowing that it was false, and intending that it should be acted upon as if it were genuine. Leslie Smith, post office clerk, said that the pass book was presented on October 26th for the insertion of interest. On cheoking the book he found the entry for the deposit of £ls, also initials in the receiving officers column, and a stamp purporting to be the office stamp of August Ist, 1927. A search was made at the office tor tne deposit slip, but it could not be found, There was no record other than the entry in the pass book of the deposit having; been made. Detective Jenvey said that on October 29th he interviewed the accused at the Chief Post Office, and she made a statement admitting making the entry Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in accused's own recognisance ot £SO and at Mr White's request an order was made suppressing her name.
