SEEDLINGS FOR BOTTLE LAKE. In tiio grounds 'of the Botanic Guldens arc seed boxes planted with forest trees which have reached a height of an inch or so. are the special care of Mr James Young, the curator, and iu time they will be planted out at Bottle Lake. Among those to be planted out shortly are 30,000 American lied Cedar and 150,000 niacrocarpa trees. In Mr Young's opinion, the niacrocarpa is an ideal tree for the farmer. It provides good shelter while it is growing, and in ten or twelve years it may bo cut for fencing posts and similar purposes.
