ANTHONY WILDING SHIELD.
TO THE EDITOR Of THE TRESS. —As a keen tennis player, lam particularly pleased to see that an endeavour is at last, being made by the Canterbury selectors to select the best team available to meet the Wellington representatives for the Anthony Wilding Shield, but after seeing the ar rangement of test matches to date, 1 am a little uneasy. Tennis players generally will agree that Ollivier and Seay are certainties, leaving two more players to be selected. On present form, the following appear to have the best claim: AValker, Aligns, and Greenwood, in that order. May I ask the selectors why they are noi williag to allow Walker and Angas to meet? Walker has already beaten Loughnan, Patterson, and Greenwood, and has in turn been beaten by Ollivier, I'each, and Seay. Angas has also been steadily climbing to the top, and this year was beaten by Walker at Ashburton, but had his revenge at Timttru on hard courts. Each has therefore one win to his credit, nnd it is now up to the selectors to give Walker a fair deal, and try him out against Angas, instead of playing him against Ollivier and Seay, who are admittedly his superiors, or, say, Patterson, who lias only once defeated him in about seven matches. Now, Sir, if the selectors wish the best available team selected, it is obvious that the following matches should be made at once, and thq team selected accordingly:—(l) Walker versus Angas; (2) Angas versus Greenwood. The latter has already been decisively beaten by Walker. The team I would suggest is: Ollivier, Seay, Walker, and the winner in the match Angas versus Greenwood.—Yours, etc., A PLAYER. February 10th.
