CRACROFT HILL.
TO THE r.DITOIi OF THE TBESS. Sir,—l wish, with your indulgence, i to thank Air Jami'!) Scott, who is personally unknown to nic, for his ulnleI Hearted support in your issue to-day I ot inv letter on the above subject in your columns of tho Bth inst. J was gratified yesterday to l)<-;ir Irom several jiersons I met, in town tlieir approval ot the suggestions in my letter, one of whom was practically a stranger to me, though a long and wellknown local resident, who stopped mo to c.. dorse them. One, however, a very old friend, was inclined to sneer ai and ridicule them, but there was no time for full discussion. I now wish to invito him to come into the open and have it out in your columns (if you will allow), where I shall be pleased to meet him, even if he seeks anonymity. Fearful ot trespassing tuo far on your space. I omitted in my previous letter to point out that sfr Ell's scheme to provide with its wayside rest houses a road from Lyttelton to Akaroa Heads would afford, and that at no very distant date, a route or drive in no way second tn the world-famous drive, tho Corniche road alone the Mediterranean Sea. which must he familiar to everyone who has visited the Riviera: while the view from Cracroft Hill can not be fin-passed by that from Mount Kden or Cornwall Park. so Moved of Aucklanders, and should well make Christchurch residents proud and cratcful to Mr Kll. Hut the money required by the trustees to complete the work will not, I fear, be raised hv merely advertising for : what is needed is a public rneetinir fit which a committee of representative and enthusiastic supporters and workers would bp elected, whose special business it would be to get it. Will not others support Mr Scott nud—Yours, etc., HOWARD 0. LEYINGE. February 10th. 1927.
