w SATISFACTORY YEAR. The annual meeting of subscribers to tho Addington Public Library took place last evening, Mr E.i J. Howard, M.P., presiding. Tnoro were present also: Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and Crs. W. E. Lcadley and T. H. Butterfleld. Apologies were received from the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), Crs. C. P. Agar and E. 11. Andrews, and Mr J. S. Neville (Town Ulork). The annual report stated that the year had been a fairiy satisfactory one. Tho membership showed a slight decrease, the number of subscriptions paid being 740, as compared with 765 tho previous year. The commlttoo had placed 7SO new books on the shelves, an increaso of 100 ovor the previous year's purchase, and the number of volumes available for circulation Was 7100. Tho finances of tho Library had been satisfactory, although it had shown a slight decrease, and the men and women who had acted as librarians wero to be commendod for the fine spirit in which they had given their services voluntarily for the district. Tho report and the balance-sheet, which Bhowed a credit balance of £34 19s Bd, wero adopted. The election of officers resulted as under:— Patron, the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer); president, Mr E, Parlane; six vice-presidents; hon. socretary, Mr T. 11, Tilleyshort; hon. treasurer, Mr F. Mathicson; trustees, Messrs w. Pickering and A. Heaven; hon. auditor, Mr G. Gyde; and a committee of twenty. Mr Lcadley moved that tho. election of a canvassing committee be referred to the incoming committee.—The motion was carried. Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., said that the committee had every reason to bo satisfied with the year's working. During the present period of unemployment, working people were moving from place to place in search of work, and probably this would account for the slight decreaso in finance for the year. The speaker paid a tribute to the people who had acted on the Library Commlttoo during the year, and said that they were doing a servlco of immeasurable value to their community.
