PERSONAL. (smut. TO TBI rBEIS.) GREI'MOUTH, February P. As a mark of appreciation of his active association with athletics on the West Coast for the past 40 years, Mr G. E. Terkius has been elected a lifo member of the Greymouth Athletic and Cycling Association. Mr W. Wick, student teacher at the Grcvmouth Technical High School, was successful in obtaining a full pass in the teachers' 1> examination held in Grcvmouth in August. Mr J. W. Fcrgie, Chief Clerk of Kailways at Talmerston North, who has been on a holiday trip to the Fran/. Josef Glacier, left for the North Island this morning. Combined Trades Picnic. The whole of the Greymouth business places closed today for the combined trades picnic excursion to Totara Flat. Tho attendance was not so large as ou former occasions, which was probably due to the prevailing hot weather, which tempted numerous holiday-makers to the seaside. A total of 1100 excursionists were transported to Totara Flat liv two special trains, and cars took another 100 to the site. The day was ideal for the outing, the picnickers being provided with ample shade from the glare of the hot sun. Greymouth Swimming Club. At the annual meeting of the Greymouth Swimming Clul>, the following officers were elected for the forthcoming year:—Patron, Ui. McKay; president, Mr E. McDonnell; vice-presidents, Messrs T. K. Y. Seddon, M.P., J. O'Brien, F. Thorpy, A. Rohan, Rattray, ,1. Steer, J. Tennent, A. Raker, W. McKechnie, E. B. Mabin, and M. Fogarty; secretary, Mr W. Walters; assistantsecretary, Mr R. Lind; club captain, Mr I*. Doogan; vice-captain, Mr A. Parkinson; handienppers, Messrs W. Gieseking and C. O'Neill; delegates to Centre, Messrs F. Fielding, E. McDonnell, and P. Doogan; auditor, Mr M. J. Fogarty; committee, Messrs E. Kehoe, M. Fielding, A. Griffcn, R. Nash, W. Gieseking, and O. Williams.
