THIEF GOES TO GAOL.
"ATTEMPTED TO LIVE BY CRIME." [THE PBESS Speeiii Service.] DUNEDIX, February S. When a charge against William Alfred Itobert Fussell, of breaking, entering, and theft was called in tho Supreme Court, before Mr Justice Heed today, Mr E. J. Anderson, who appeared for the accused, said that Fussell now wished to plead guilty. Counsel had advised him to do so, though prisoner strenuously denied that he was ever on the premises.
His Honour: I cannot take that, you know, lie was found with keys and a pair of scissors. He may strenuously deny the charge, hut 1 think the evidence against him is very strong. Mr Anderson said that all In: could ask from the Court was that the term of imprisonment imposed should In: made concurrent with the sentence of three years imposed the previous day for theft of a postal packet. His Honour said he did not intend doing that. The accused, he said, apparently attempted to live by crime. Accused was not like a man who had been suddenly templed, or who had found himself out of work, as he appeared to bo capable of earning good wages. Prisoner was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment, the term to be cumulative upon the sentence imposed yesterday.
