GREYMOUTH-WESTPORT ROAD.
DEPUTATION ARRANGED.
At the last meeting of the Executive of the Canterbury Progress League, it was decided unanimously to support the representations being made to the Government by the West Coast local bodies with regard to the completion of the Greymouth-Westport coastal road. With that object a deputation was appointed to wait on the Acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. Mr Downie Stewart, on his return from Dunedin. Mr H. Holland, M.P., undertook to make the necessary appointment, and arrange for the introduction of the deputation. He has received a reply from Mr Downio Stewart, advising that he has been in communication with the Ministers for Public Works and Labour, with reference to tho feasibility of getting the work started, and the matter is under consideration in Wellington. He will receive the deputation this evening at the Christchurch railway station, on tho arrival of the second express from Dunedin. MINISTERS REPLY. (srrcuL to th» pniss.) GREYMOUTH, February 7. Tho following telegram was received to-day from tho Minister for Lands (the Hon. Mr McLcod), by tlio DeputyMayor of Grey, Mr J. W, Grccnsladc: "I have just received your letter and telegram referring to representations from the public meeting regarding the Grcy-Westport coast road, and shall confer with tho Minister for Public Works on my return to Wellington next week." Tho reply was sent from Dunedin. Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., lias received tho following letter from the Hon. Mr Kollcston, on behalf of the Prime Minister: ''l have to acknowledge receipt of your letter of January 31st, bringing under notico the general desiro of the pcoplo both in Grcymouth and Wostport to have tho GreymouthWestport road completed with every expedition. I have carefully noted nil you hnvo to say on tho subject, and shall bo glad to confer with the Minister for Public Works in regard to the matter. A further roply will be sent to you as soon as possible."
