AUCKLAND, February 7
\ fire at tho residence of J. Wilkins, at" Mount Albert, nearly resulted in loss of life. Mrs Wilkins was preparing breakfast when she heard screams coming from the washhousc Sue rushed to the spot and found her son Ray. aged two year., enveloped in flirnes These were extinguished, and c w!i-« rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile the house had caught fire, but the flames were subdued after the washhouse and kitchen had been burned, while the other rooms were damaged by smoke and water. The child sustained severe burns to the arms and lees. Before the outbreak a tire had been kindled in the washhouse, and it is surmised tnat the child had been playing with it. or that a nparb flew out and ignited something. The house was insured for £BOO in tho South British Office, and the furniture for £3OO. It is a coincidence that the houso in which Wilkins was residing at Mount Eden was partially destroyed by fire exactly a year ago to-day.
