BOWLING. The Club competitions of tho Waimate Bowling Club have boon pushed ahead, and the various sections liayo now been completed, with tho following results: —Handicap Doubles: Section A, Lalng (s) and Parry; Section B, Sage (s) and Petrie; Section C, Creemer (s) and Jackson. Club Pairs: Section A, Laing (s) and Franklin; Soctlon B, Travers (g) and Nlchol; Section C, Holmes (s) and Wilson; Section D, McDiarmid (s) and Dunstan. Champion Singles—Section A: Grant and Grainger to play off to docldo tho winner; Section B: C. 0. Holmes; Section C: E. Travers; Section D: C. J. Jackson; Soctlon E: C. Smith. It is anticipated that nt Easter, on the occasion of tho Walmato Club's tournament the green will bo fully oecupiod, and that sixteen rinks and 33 "pairs will bo taking part. Already entries hove been rocolvcd, including a rink and two pairs from tho new club at Anderson's Bay, Dunedin. The Wnlmato Bowling Club will bo represented by one rink nt tho Rotorua bowling tonrnnment, to bo held this month. The bowlers making tho trip will be Messrs Lalng,. Collctt, llealey, nnd Akhurst. This n very strong rink, and should give Opponents a hard fight. Benevolent Society. < At the monthly meeting of tho Waimato Ladies' Benevolent Society thcro were present: Mesdatnes 0. J. Shackleton (chair), S. J. Adams, P. J. Cocka, D. Sutherland, R. Scott, and C. Coventry. Fivo applications for assistnnco wore received and granted, and Mcsdames Manchester and Adams were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts amounting to £9 were passed for payment. Since the commencement, in June last, of the Red Cross Society's classes for hom« nursing, under the tuition of Nurse Christian, some 160 adult students In this district, have taken the courses, some sixty of whom have gained their first certificates. In addition classes have been held for senior school girls, all of which have been well attended, several gaining certificates v.-ith honours. The classes are to be resumed this month, and will also be held in the outlying districts.
