" The/Engineer's report for April slated* that the dredge' Canterbury had lifted, and -deposited at sea, the, following quantitiesi From the outer channel 21,840 tons, from the inner, harbour 19', 110 tons, total 40,950 .tpns'. Tho'grab dredge Tewhaka lifted and deposited at sea'a quantity of 3360 toiis'froni the dredges' wharf, No. 7 W., and tho-Glad-stone Pier. Work at Gladstone Pier is at a standstill, the wholo construction staff being ..occupied elsewhere,, awaiting the laying of tho rail sidings by the Railway Department. At tho cool stores tho new ammonia compressor has been running on trial, and some 'slight' improvements have been fniind necessary. "Th'eßO arc being carried out. Enough has 'been seen to show' that the new machine will be very economical and effective. One of the. now 3-ton electric cranes haa been' landed, tho second is being landed-ex b.s. -Matakana, and: thoolhers aro very near. The removal'of 'the* railway lines on the west side of No. 7 jetty has been completed, and tho decking is being replaced'' ' This girders; and rails. to carry tho cranes are in position. Ono of the eix piles, necessary to strengthen the western side of the jetty, has .been driven. The "Aga" lighted and whistling buoy has. been brought in for recharging and. annual cleaning and painting. The Sailors' Home Corrtmitjtce ■ reported that the earnings for April totalled i'll 9 Ifls 2d, and the expenditure £lO2 6s; -the credit balance was £22 'l6s 2d.
