ASHBURTON SUB-UNION. The weekly meeting of the Ashburton County Hugby Sub-Union was held last evening, the chairman, Mr \Y. I'\ Walters, presiding. The chairman reported having received a communication from the Otago University Football Club, accepting the Sub-Union's invitation to play a match against an Ashburton representative team at Ashburton on June 3rd. Owing to late acceptance of the invitation, the Sub-Union had written to the Christchurch' Old Boys, to ascertain whether they could visit Ashburton on ihat date. . , It was decided to communicate again with Old Boys, giving them preference. ■With reference to the three challenges for the Soulhbridge Shield, lodged on April Ist the Canterbury Rugby Union advised ihat thev could bo dealt with by the holder in the "following olrder:—Hurunm, roninBula, Ashburton. Owing to the- secondary school vacation it was agreed to defer the 4th grade competition on May 15th and 22nd. It was decided to arrange the annual representative match with Ellesmerc and MacKenzie Sub-Unions at Leeston and l''airlio respectively on June 12th. MALVERN SUB-UNION. The second round nf matches played in Malvern Rugby Suli-Uniort resulted as follows:—Kirwee 3, Sheffield 3; Hororata 11, Springfield i2; Glentuhilel 30, Darfleld 0.

LEAGUE. LINWOOD CLUB. A general meeting of the Linwood Club was held last evening, Mr W. S. E. Moyle presiding over a largo attendance of members, including ladies. The chairman stated that the principal object of the meeting -was the formation of a strong Social Committee for the benefit of the club members during the season. The success attendant on the activities of the Social Committee last season had not only been beneficial to the club, but also to the code. Messrs J. Chick, R. Archibald, J. Underwood, and P. Kirton eulogised the assistance rendered bv the 1U25 Social Committee. It was decided that all the Social Committee meet on Monday next, and that they elect their own officers. The following committee was elected: Mesdames Sullivan, Underwood, Cooper, Desmond, Lee, Rogers, Dunshea, Chick, Rogers, Jackson, Penrce, Misses Desmond, Richards, Prior, and Dtihshca, Messrs J. Chick, It. Archibald, C. Sullivan, R. Cooper, Dunshea, J. Underwood, A, Bowlev, AV. Aldwin; A. Stuart, A. Mantell, W. Bock, \V. Wails, P. Kirton, D. W. Desmond senior, H. Rogers, A. Milne, W. L. Doshlonfl, W. Dunshea, W. Rogers, and the president. " It was resolved to request the playevs in each grade to give their support tb the committee. It was decided that representation be given on the General Committee to 4 three representatives from the Social Committee. It was also resolved that the club affiliate with the Sports Protection Society, the secretary to obtain information and report to the Club Executive, The secretary reported that the club had been granted a benefit evening on June 10th. The senior selector stated that owing to some players having to attend Territorial parade, and others being injured, the team was not fully represented last Saturday, but that this would be overcome.

ASSOCIATION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management Committee of tho Canterbury Football Association met last night. Present: Messrs S. B. Walker (chairman), W. D. Efttllsßy, &. B. ToWflrt, £. ScoltRamsay, J. S. Jcnkinson, B. S. Keys, J. McQulness, F. 0. Bentley, H. Smythe, A. Bassett, J. Stout, Dr. J. D. Marks, and Mr R. B. Bunt (secretary). Mr R. English attended towards the end of the meeting. The secretary submitted a report on the anuual meeting of the New Zealand Association, held in Wellington on April 26th. Ho also reported on the arbitration in respect Of the Brown Shield Guarantee Fund dispute between the Canterbury and Auckland Associations. Ho had received a telepram from the secretary of the New Zealand Association stating that tho result of the arbitration was in favour of Canterbury. Thn amount involved was £SO 17s. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Bunt by acclamation. A telegram was received from Otira slating that nn endenvour was being made to form a Soccer club there, and asking if the committee had any old footballs. The matter was left to the secretary. The South Canterbury Association wrote agreeing to mako tho match on June 3rd an annual fixture; also that this year's match should bo for the Peter Dawson Cup. Mr J. P. Flood wrote regretting that owing to unforeseen circumstances it was necessary for him to resign his seat on tho committee. Mr Flood's resignation was accepted with regret. The Classification Comlnitteo reported that Lj'ttclton seniors, Sumner juniors, Technical A third, St. Alhans third, Marist fourth. Technical fifth, Marist fifth, and Technical B sixth had ployed unregistered players, and it was recommended that any points gained by them be forfeited. The report was adopted. A motion appreciative of the space devoted by the Christohurch newspapers to Association football was agreed to. Charity Match. It was stated that the only match next Saturday would be the Charity Cup match, Wostern v. Sunnyside. at English Park. As a curtain-raiser there would he a match, Western v. Technical, fifth grade, which would start at 1.30 p.m. It was decided that the allocation of the proceeds of the match be left till after the match, when applications were received. He denied that tho referee cautioned him, and ]io denied also that he had apologised to Trotter. The newspaper "Sun's" football critic, in urging the necessity for a defihito decision regarding tho proposed visit of an Australian Soccer team to A'cw Zealand, if a representative team 13 to be assembled, says that the Association is quite prepared to organise a team provided the tour is curtailed to seven weeks, and the Australian authorities receive a twenty-five per cent, division of the profits. He adds:—"The Zealand authorities, it is understood, do not favour a distribution of profits. This may lead to tho cancellation of tho tour. Under the present tentalivo arrangements tho team would lcavo Svdnev on June 17th. Consequently, an immediate decision should be made to allow time'f°r thtt formidable task of assembling a team.'
