Although his opponent is regarded as the weakest competitor in the billiards tourney, Shailer was disappointing. In his first thirteen, visits to the table, with many chances to ■ score, he only obtained twenty-four against Rutledge's 103. Shailer improved later, mainly in losing hazards, and averaged twelve.
